The House of Representatives Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions has announced a two-day public hearing on six bills that will strengthen the nation’s agricultural sector, including a Bill for an Act to Regulate the Profession of Agriculture which will make provision for the establishment of the Nigerian Institute of Agriculturists and other related matters.
This follows the referral made by the House on the six bills to the committee for further legislative action.
In a statement signed by the chairman of the committee, Hon. Linus Okorie, the committee listed others bills as a bill to repeal the Veterinary Surgeons Act 2004, a bill to amend the Nigerian Research Institutes to include the establishment of the Shea Butter Research Institute, a bill to amend the Nigerian Co-operative Societies Act, a bill to amend the Federal Universities of Agriculture Act, as well as a bill for the establishment of the Fisheries Research Institute of Nigeria.
According to the statement, the hearing will hold at the Conference Room, New Building of the House of Representatives on Monday 7th of May and Tuesday, 8th of May 2018 at 10 am daily.
“Consequently, the committee hereby requests that memoranda on the bills be submitted in forty copies, with a soft copy attached to the Committee Secretariat in Room 313, 3rd floor, White House, House of Representatives, National Assembly Complex Abuja, on or before Friday 5th May, 2018,” the statement reads in part.
